Self-Reported Smartphone Addiction Among Brazilian Adolescents in the COVID-19 Pandemic Context: a Mixed-Method Study

This study intended to (1) estimate the prevalence of Self-Reported Smartphone Addiction among adolescents and (2) know adolescents’ perspective on smartphone addiction in COVID-19 pandemic context. The research is a sequential explanatory mixed-method conducted with aged from 15 18 years old. In first phase, cross-sectional was carried out 479 and, second, an exploratory qualitative approach 16 participants, who were Focus Groups sessions. estimated self-reported 56.37%. most prevalent symptoms those related tolerance. Sequentially, analysis, two categories identified that reveal how perceive context, as well they unveil elements characterize this addiction. It can be concluded classified addicted admitted by them during addictive relationship established device intensified consequences pandemic. Thus, health professionals must implement actions aimed at adaptive behavior towards smartphones promote mental adolescence.
